Learning

Provide learning opportunities for students and other education groups,
regardless of age.

Our education program is an object-based and immersive one that encourages people to learn by sparking their curiosity. Through it, different education groups can improve their cultural awareness and scientific understanding. The education programs can be onsite when the students visit the museum or offsite. The offsite program brings the museum in a box to your school, community centre, library, and any other location.

Video Conferencing

We offer video conferencing services that allow your school or
educational group to access our collections, experts, and collections from anywhere. This means you don’t have to come down to the museum to get all the necessary information and education about cultural objects and specimens. You can get fully interactive learning from your school. We organise different educational programs via video conferencing, and you can find them on your platform. You can book a video conferencing session.

Museum in a Box

The museum in a box program is an outreach program where we bring the museum to educational institution all over Australia. We have different boxes that contain real museum artefacts, casts, dioramas, specimens, digital resources, images, books, etc. and these boxes are loaned to various schools across Australia.

The boxes are loaned for three weeks, and you get them for your school at a very reasonable price. There are different boxes on various topics, and you can get the one you want. There are multiple risks associated with the boxes, and we require that adults should be in charge at all time. You can also book a box on a three-week loan.

Topics include Marine Mammals, Day and Night Box, Frogs, National Parks, Dinosaurs, Life on the Seashore, Echidnas, Minibeast, Insects, Living on the Land, Spiders, Bush Tuckers, Bats, Human Evolution, etc.

Biological Diversity Days

We also organise biological diversity study programs during which students have the opportunity to examine specimens, fossils, plants, and live animals. During the programs, the student gets the chance to understand the relationship that exists between organisms in terms of their evolution and selected habitats. You can be part of the programme live online and have virtual excursions.

Teacher Professional Learning

We also provide development programs for teachers where we employ practical techniques and hands-on approaches to train them in how they can engage students and teach them historical content. There are accredited professional development programs through which these teachers can learn how to teach the histories of Torres Strait Islanders and Aboriginal cultures and histories. Through these programs, you will understand everything about diversity in Australia and experience different classroom strategies and techniques.
